We were recently visited by the wonderful Samantha and David. Samantha has 4 pairs of Loopwheels, with a stunning, red, 5th pair on the way! For Sam, the really important benefit of Loopwheels is the comfort and pain relief she experiences, but she also loves that they enable her to personalise her wheelchair with different colour options. During their visit, David explained to our team how Loopwheels also make a difference for him.
The Loopwheels make a difference to me, not just to Sam. When I’m pushing Sam I don’t get vibration up my arms. We’ve been using Loopwheels since 2015, and we wouldn’t ever be without them. They’re much more comfortable for Sam and for me too.
Another benefit I find is that I can push Sam with one hand and have the other free to point things out to Sam etc. I don’t know why, but I can’t easily use just one hand with our other spoked wheels.
When we first got the Loopwheels, it took time to adjust. They felt different from other wheels – but I find the Loopwheels manoeuvre much easier and better than spoked wheels.
The tyre pressure is important. Sam is so much more comfortable using Loopwheels, but she can tell straight away if the tyre pressure is low. Since she is sensitive to discomfort, it’s important to keep the tyre pressure high so the suspension works at its best.
